St Mary’s Cathedral

In 2003 Laird Construction carried out works on the heritage listed St Mary’s Cathedral. Restoration services included repair to walls and sand stone columns. Laird Construction worked with the Catholic Church again in 2008 to fix rising damp on St Mary’s Cathedral. This included the installation of air vent drains to church perimeter to combat rising damp. Laird Construction has also carried out striation repairs and works to the verandah of the Clergy House.

1800’s Heritage Cottage West Hobart

Laird Construction restored and rebuilt a heritage listed cottage in West Hobart. Works included the restoration and rebuild of stone work to the cottage as well as the correction and straightening of exterior walls.

” Laird  Construction has worked on a number of building projects including the complete restoration of an early 1800s stone house. This was a major challenge with the lime rubble walls leaning over and no major foundations. Most people thought it was beyond restoration. The walls were slowly realigned and an air drain formed to stabilise the soil footprint, With a new pitched roof, and verandah extension a very usable space was created housing a sleeping area mezzanine below with a small kitchen and bathroom. Stephen had good reliable competent contacts to assist in the specialised various stages. The stone house (reputed to have housed Martin Cash) is a feature of our home and we delight in showing people the project..Now twenty years later, it is still standing well. I was very happy working with Stephen, to discuss ideas and to develop parts of the work prior to assembly. Communication was excellent!
Stephen also underpinned a cracking sandstone and brick wall of my surgery and placed in a steel lintel to form a doorway. I would definitely recommend Stephen for a thorough job, especially if it had challenging aspects requiring some lateral planning.”
